As I leaned over, I felt a stir behind me. At that moment, when the door of the store rang, we both started. We hurried upstairs to check on the customer. An elderly couple who had entered the store were looking through the carpets. Sedat left to help them.
I took this opportunity to go back downstairs to look at the carpets again. After a while, Sedat came back to me and said, “I don’t want you to misunderstand what happened a moment ago. I’m just trying to help you like our carpets,” he said, shyly.
There was a look of uneasiness in his eyes, but this encouraged me even more. “I understand,” I said. “Let’s continue looking at the carpets.” As Sedat showed me different carpets, the tense atmosphere between us slowly gave way to a more relaxed atmosphere. We continued looking at the carpets, chatting and laughing.
Finally, I found a carpet I liked and decided to buy it. As Sedat wrapped the carpet, he said, “I hope this carpet finds a nice place in your home,” he said with a smile.
“Absolutely,” I said. “Thank you for your help, Sedat. Maybe we will meet again someday.”
“You are always welcome, Semra Hanım,” Sedat said as he sent me off. As I left the shop, I felt a sweet excitement and curiosity for my next visit.
